A local based production seeks to use modern everyday horror-inducing situations as a backdrop to a new survival challenge reality series. The new blockbuster series highlights a modern twist on the traditional survivalist theme of man vs. the environment. While most series in this genre take place in the wilderness, this series moves the challenge to an urban setting. Survival in the wilderness is about to become Surviving Downtown: North City Edition. Sort of like the reality series “Naked and Alone” but without the naked or the alone stuff.
As you would expect, contestants have to deal with a host of modern urban challenges that strike fear into the heart of the audience BECAUSE they are so familiar to today’s younger viewers. Challenges like running out of cell data, finding a cafe with a good vegan option or overcoming a severe lack of available affordable parking. But, of all the challenges presented, by far the most difficult challenge is the dodging e-scooters that inhabit our city’s sidewalks.
The audience is invited to vicariously join contestants as they try to survive the onslaught of electric powered vehicles that are seemingly everywhere (because they are). The series is shoot in a location that is reminiscent of a Zombie apocalypse but is real just a few random downtown city blocks.
A typical episode features other difficult urban environment challenges like:
- Waiting FOREVER in a drive-through for a decent cup of coffee
- Trying to find a usable washroom without having to purchase an item that the contestant really doesn’t want.
- Navigating uncontrolled intersections.
- The seemingly endless challenge of safely navigating a sidewalk that is always under construction.
Only one will survive. Who will be the last one standing? All will be revealed Fridays started this Fall. Check out the new hit series Surviving Downtown: North City Edition right after the home improvement series everyone is talking about: SELL IT OR DON’T BOTHER only on NCTV.
