On the heels of several high profile musical artists and performers being denied access to Canada and Canadian venues, some citizens of Prince George are making their feelings known in a related controversy that went viral several weeks ago after comments made by local Rockabilly stars The Chevys were shared on-line. Unsubstantiated reports flooded social media platforms earlier this week alleging that one of the band members of the local Rockabilly group The Chevys, had been caught on tape mocking the non-alcoholic beer community in a private conversation secretly recorded by an investigative reporter from Project Veritos
“We are just saying that maybe we sound better after a couple of beers.” -Yule (guitarist)
Bass player Dennis Smith can be heard being critical of the non-alcoholic-beer movement and the Lite beer/White Claw community with comments like:”What do near-beer and White Claw drinkers have in common? They both have no taste,” and “Do we really have to play to the O’Douls Tools every night?’
“We don’t want people coming to our shows and listening to our music completely sober.” – Smith
Karen McKaren, spokesman for the Near-beer Community based in College Heights released a statement to CITY NEWS saying that The Chevys are now banned from all music venues in the GCHA (Greater College Heights Area) “If The Chevys are not comfortable with non-alcoholic beer drinkers maybe College Heights is not the place for them. What’s next: are The Chevys going to be looking down on us for bringing Avocado toast to dances or driving Subarus.
“I may not agree with what they drink but I am still willing to accept their money.” Martin (drummer)
